It’ll soon be released for public beta testing. Alongside the first iOS 16.1 Beta, Apple has released iPadOS 16.1 Beta 2, tvOS 16.1 Beta 1, and watchOS 9.1 Beta. The first beta can be identified with the build number 20B5045D. Since it’s the first beta after the iOS 16 update, you’ll be receiving a pretty big update as it’ll be around 5GB.

What to expect from iOS 16.1 Beta 1 update

As this is the first beta update, you can expect new features and changes. The update will bring in battery percentage on the status bar for iPhone 11, iPhone XR, iPhone 12 Mini, and iPhone 13 Mini.

The battery percentage feature was made available with iOS 16 except for those four models. Earlier this week, Apple announced the new Clean Energy charging, which is now available on the iOS 16.1 Beta. The new update will also bring in an option for changing the home screen wallpaper after tapping and holding on the lock screen. Other changes with iOS 16.1 Beta include –

How to install iOS 16.1 Beta 1 update?

Currently, the new iOS 16.1 Beta 1 update is only available for developers. The public beta is expected to become available soon. If you’re on iOS 16 firmware and haven’t removed the beta profile, you can check for the new update by going to Settings -> General -> Software Update. If you’re on the public build and wish to test the iOS 16.1 beta, you will have to install the beta profile on your iPhone. You’ll be receiving the update on your iPhone once you’ve installed the beta profile. Ensure that you’re taking a full backup of your iPhone’s data and charge it to at least 60% before updating.
